The Kyoto Prize

As Lead Designer, I worked closely with the Blavatnik School of Government for several years on The Kyoto Prize, Oxford—an international award presented by the Inamori Foundation. The prize honours individuals whose contributions shape the world’s scientific, cultural, and spiritual landscape. Each May, these achievements are celebrated at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford.

For this project, I led the creative direction, ensuring a strong visual and conceptual connection to Japanese culture. Inspired by the Kyoto Prize’s core values, I developed a design language based on interlocking triangular forms- symbolising interconnectedness, growth, and expanding possibilities. To further honour the prize’s heritage, I incorporated Japanese characters and origami-inspired paper-folding motifs, blending tradition with a forward-thinking approach.

My role encompassed designing and overseeing all creative assets, including printed invitations, event programmes, menus, and advertising materials. Additionally, I art-directed video shoots, working closely with the videographer and editor to craft compelling campaign videos. I also collaborated with paid media specialists to develop high-performing digital advertising strategies.

The campaign has been a major success over the years, with digital advertisements achieving over 4 million impressions and 140,000+ engagements.
